Grenadiers News · Senior wrestler caps off historic career

Wrestling can be a life changer for those who put their heart into it. Those individuals who give it all they got will always come out on top. The top of the podium was the goal this past weekend for Senior Team Captain Seth Suvak but he ended up taking 6th place in what was one of the toughest tournaments of his career.

Suvak entered the state tournament for the first time Friday as a 4th seed, he placed 4th the previous weekend at the Regional Championships at Flagler Palm Coast High School. He was the only 4th seed to place in the state tournament at his weight. His first match was definitely a blow as Nolin Eaddy, a senior from Osceola High knocked Seth into the consolation side of the bracket. That was all the motivation he needed to wrestleback and come home with a state medal. Seth then went on a pinning spree as he pinned Jordan Adrien of Treasure Coast High, Jason Martin of Buchholz High and Nathan Peoples of George Jenkins High (Martin was a redemption match as Martin had defeated Suvak at Regionals).

After his pinning streak, it secured Suvak a state medal, he would then face Fleming Island’s Hunter Williams to determine if he would be 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th. After coming up short in that match, Suvak had to face Keyshawn Campbell in his final high school match. Campbell outmatched Suvak but as a Hog of Steel would, he came off the mat with his head held high.

Seth Suvak accomplished a lot in his 2 year high school wrestling career. In fact, at the state tournament, he had the most pins in the least amount of time for his bracket. He has never finished below .500 in a tournament ever. He finishes with over 60 wins, he’s had to overcome injury, the coronavirus pandemic, and teams cancelling to achieve this. He will finish his high school career as a 2 time District Champion (2020 at 182lbs, 2021 at 195lbs), a 2021 Metro Conference Champion, 2 time All-Metro, 2019 Bill Scott Memorial 3rd Place, Team Captain, AP Scholar, Varsity athlete in Golf, Track and Field, Cross Country, Cheerleading and Soccer as well as Wrestling. He was also part of the 2020 District Runner up Team.
